Synopsis: Is Rose’s fate to kill the person she loves most? It’s springtime at St. Vladimir’s Academy, and Rose Hathaway is this close to graduation. Since Mason’s death, Rose hasn’t been feeling quite right. She has dark flashbacks in the middle of practice, can’t concentrate in class, and has terrifying dreams about Lissa. But Rose has an even bigger secret …. She’s in love with Dimitri. And this time, it’s way more than a crush. Then Strigoi target the academy in the deadliest attack in Moroi history, and Dimitri is taken. Review: Another epic addition to the Vampire Academy series. Not only was the plot of most of the story really intriguing but the ending was just mind blowing. So mind blowing that if this entire book had been a three star, the ending alone would have pulled it way way up, all on its own. Either way, this book was great all the way through.

I loved learning more about the politics behind vampire society. There are so many nuances and power plays going on all the time that it is so much fun to follow. It is especially interesting because Rose occasionally gets to look in on the inner workings of court through her best friend, Lissa’s mind. Lissa is a royal, and the last of her line so there is a lot expected of her but it also gives the characters (and readers) a level of access they might not otherwise have.

Rose is still a stellar main character. Sometimes I have trouble relating to the tough as nails, kick-ass chicks in books but there is a very human (heh, irony) quality to Rose that you don’t see in enough characters anymore. Through the first three books you really do see her growing as a person and in her abilities, this girl is hardcore.

Anyways, another great book in easily my favorite vampire series.
